Want shared MCP tools across your AI apps without running a gateway on each machine? Compare Docker MCP Gateway alternatives, including the options you will still need for local files and container-hosted servers.
By the Toolstile team. Reviewed .
We make Toolstile, one of the products listed here, and compared each option on the same criteria (where it runs, how each AI app gets access, how accounts and sign-in work, what gets logged and what it costs) using public documentation and pricing rather than hands-on testing of every product. How we reviewed
7 alternatives to Docker MCP Gateway. Toolstile is listed first because we make it. The list is not a ranking. Starting prices link to the vendor page they came from.

The comparison below covers what a team leaving Docker MCP Gateway has to decide: hosting, per-agent access, accounts and sign-in, logging, cost and the work left with you. Facts come from Docker MCP Gateway's public documentation and pricing on the dates under sources. We ran no benchmarks and gave no scores.
Docker MCP Gateway manages server lifecycle, routing and credentials. The Desktop MCP Toolkit provides profiles and a catalog; the open-source CLI can also operate independently.
| Compare | Toolstile | Docker MCP Gateway | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where tools execute | Toolstile forwards to public HTTPS MCP servers; it does not run their processes. | Docker starts and manages MCP servers in isolated containers. | 12 |
| Local files and runtime limits | No localhost, private-network or local-process hosting. | Toolkit can grant explicit host mounts and applies container CPU and memory limits. | 13 |
| Configuration boundary | Personal/team workspaces with per-client tools, resources and prompts. | Profiles collect servers for particular projects or environments. | 43 |
| Gateway and runtime cost | Free 5,000 operations/month; paid plans start at $29/workspace/month. | Gateway source is MIT licensed; Docker subscription eligibility, runtime and infrastructure costs are separate. | 567 |
| Credential handling | Stored MCP credentials are encrypted; approved shared accounts use explicit account selection. | Toolkit handles browser OAuth for supported servers and manages their credentials. | 183 |
| Which Docker offering is compared | A managed remote access service with published workspace plans. | The open-source gateway and Desktop Toolkit differ from Docker's sales-led MCP Enterprise Gateway. | 5629 |
Managed remote MCP accessOur product
Use remote MCP tools without running their containers
Toolstile fits a Docker buyer who can use provider-run public HTTPS endpoints and wants shared access across clients. The managed gateway handles the access layer, while explicit client grants keep broad upstream accounts from exposing every capability.
Select a cell to edit access. Explicit blocks always win.

delete_repositoryThe gateway repository is MIT licensed and can run independently. Docker also sells a separate MCP Enterprise Gateway through sales, and lists its Docker-managed cloud option as not yet available. Check the exact product, Desktop eligibility and commercial terms rather than assigning one price to all three.
Sources6279Members can contribute upstream accounts for admin approval, then choose a preferred approved account. Each client still needs its own grant, and stored server credentials stay in Toolstile. This is useful when several AI apps need shared remote tools without distributing provider tokens to every client config.
